5 top mistakes we do over the holidays and how to avoid it.

Suddenly it's already December, and we realize there is so much to do before Christmas and News Year. This year with COVID 19, everything looks different, and most of us don't know what we will do. We still have presents to buy, cards to write, messages to send, maybe scheduling and organizing dinner with our close family. There is no doubt we all get swamped at the end of the year and quickly end up overwhelmed. We all follow a very similar pattern during the holidays:

  • We drink more than usual

  • We not only eat more but increase the intake of sugar and heavier dishes

  • We tend to sleep less and have a poorer quality

  • We exercise less due to lack of time

  • WE POSTPONE EVERYTHING FOR NEXT YEAR

We eat everything because we will start the year on a diet. We stop exercising because we will have a new routine in the upcoming year. And that's how we create a massive list of resolutions that will magically happen next year even though it didn't work last year. We feel excited; we make an intention to work on our affirmations and vision board. How could we change to avoid that we have a strong realization that nothing is happening as you thought it would be in the middle of January. 

Instead of postponing every single task or habit you wish you would implement next year and ask yourself what you could start doing NOW. For example, if you are drinking a little bit too much this end of the year, instead of saying that you will consume less next year, start drinking more water this year, or skip drinking one night if you are already feeling overloaded with alcohol. If you think you are eating too much and already acquired a few extra pounds, instead of planning a rigorous diet starting Jan 2nd, could you try to have a few healthy and light meals over the holidays to give you a little break? Be creative and avoid judging and being hard on yourself.

Another important thing instead of making big plans, you can still keep those, but try to create at least one project in detail. It's best if you can be very specific. If you are going to exercise more, what kind of exercise are you going to do? How many times a week? What time? Where are you going to exercise? What are your expectations and your goals? How do you think you are going to feel once you start it? Break everything into small steps that you are sure you will be able to do.

Now it is with you. Sit and write down what is not working for you now and what your plan is to make it work. Christmas and New Year is a powerful time. Find your inspiration and go ahead with your plan. And of course, don't forget to enjoy this fabulous celebration time.
